Do You Want to be Happier at Home?

Recently, I read the book Happier at Home by Gretchen Rubin, who also authored the book The Happiness Project, and I’ve got to say it was one of the best things I’ve read in a while.

I really enjoy the anecdotal style of the book, as well as the “secrets to adulthood” that she includes throughout. In fact, there are a few gems tucked away in that book that really impacted me. And, like her first happiness-focused book, I bet this is one I’ll be rereading.

A couple of awesome takeaways include remembering that doing things in the name of happiness won’t always make you happy in the short term. For example, doing those nice little things that make you feel good aren’t usually convenient. Things like helping a neighbour or a friend. You may be busy, tired, or just don’t feel like doing it, but going that extra, out-of-the-way mile will act as a deposit in your long-term happiness bank account.

I also enjoyed the focus on not trying to make yourself happier by worrying about the things that should make you happy. You’re you, and what makes you happy makes you happy.–so stick with that.

Now I don’t want to give too much away, so I’ll stop here. But, do read this book. It’s full of good reminders, especially for busy moms.
