I have a baby who eats a lot.
So naturally, I spend a good amount of time tucked away on the nursery rocking chair. And normally if baby is eating away happily, during the day, I try to engage him by singing songs, talking to him, etc. or reading a book if he’s falling asleep or just zoning out a little.
But, at 5:00am (or 3:00 or 2:00 – when he used to love feeding the most) the iPad is my closest companion. At this time, my brain is capable of very little of anything requiring more than sitting upright.
During the first month or so of my son’s life I watched so many movies and TV shows during these late night feeds. I polished off the entire season of Orange is The New Black in about a week, and by the end I was almost looking forward to being woken up in the night. House of Cards is another series that I devoured in a ridiculously short period of time. I also watched a very random selection of movies, from some really great independent comedies to a movie about a girl who loses her arm in a shark attack (looking back, not the best choice).
Biggest bonus about having Netflix handy for these occasions – as the overtired mom who falls asleep at the drop of a hat, Netflix is great because I can always start at the beginning no matter how many times I nod off during the show. Not that that ever happens.
