a new day

I love writing. In fact, I’m lucky enough to get to do it professionally. However, at the moment, I’m home with my youngest on maternity leave. So, I’m taking advantage of the chance to do some recreational writing. In addition to my passion for writing, my family is what I live and breathe for. They are the most wonderful part of my life. That’s why I’m going to take up writing about family-related topics, from cooking for picky eaters (I have one of these) to travelling with little ones to attempting the oh-that-looks-so-easy DIY projects that I keeping stumbling into.

I suppose I should also introduce myself. My name is Jen, and I have three kids who are eight, five, and three months, as well as a wonderful husband. Also, I’m an avid cook and baker. I LOVE trying out new recipes (or at least using them as a guideline) and creating my own. What I really enjoy is trying to get my family to appreciate that my cooking is vegetarian (with a side of fish for them). So far, it’s going pretty well. I have the kids a little in love with the Food Network and anything cooking-related. Hopefully, I can chronicle my cooking with kids adventures as I go as well.

I hope that eventually I won’t be the only one reading this blog, but I’m kind of OK with it at the moment, since it might take some time to get my writing chops back in shape. Please bear with me.

One more thing. I live in the Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, and it might be the best place on earth to raise a family. I’m also going to try to share anything I can about that, such as fun activities to try, places to visit, and so on.

Sounds ambitious, huh? Well, time to give it a go!

Wish me luck!
